THE LAND

Harmony and Health is located on 64 acres of mesquite plains on the edge of the Sonoran Desert. We are 26 miles west of Tucson, AZ, located just off of Ajo Highway. Our space is cradled by mountains in all directions: Tucson Mountains and the Catalinas to the east and north, the Sierritas to the south, and Baboquivari Range to the west. On the western mountains, we can just make out Kitt Peak Observatory. Like them, we treasure our location for the clarity of the night sky and the wondrous stars we behold every night.

ACCOMMODATIONS

For accommodations, there is plenty of camping space available, with shared cooking and bathroom facilities nearby: one stove, one oven, one fridge, two composting toilets, one solar shower. We are currently working on adding to our accommodation facilities, and plan to offer geo-tents and RVs to visitors in the future. We have Internet for Wi-Fi capable computers and devices. If you are interested in having a group camping event, we request a small donation to offset maintenance expenses.

BHAKTI GARDEN

The term bhakti is a Sanskrit word for “portion” or “share”. In Hinduism it refers to the sharing of divine love and devotion. For our community, we include all life and nature in this spiritual love. Therefore, “the Bhakti” or “Bhakti Garden” refers to a nine acre area of land that is the center of activity at Harmony and Health. It is much more than a garden. This land is dedicated to the experience of communion with the earth, sky, elements, plants, outdoor creatures, and one another. Inhabitants embody the spirit of bhakti, engaged in the daily pursuit of living peacefully, productively, and with spiritual intention. The Bhakti provides an earth church space, with the divine experienced through both nature and culture. The garden is filled with flowers, vines, aromatic plants, sculptures, crystals, and beautiful stones. We also have a growing collection of musical instruments, many made from recycled and found objects. From the Prayer Tipi and Harmonic Chapel, to a mesquite forest and large vegetable garden, one can more easily experience the oneness of life, love, and nature.

THE HEARTH

The Hearth is the heart of the Bhakti Garden and our community. The area includes cooking facilities, Internet connection, outdoor shower, composting toilet, and a sacred fire circle. It is bordered by the Harmony Garden, the Harmonic Chapel, and the Prayer Tipi.

HARMONIC CHAPEL

The Harmonic Chapel is a world-class, hand-built resonant chamber made of sandbags and ferro-cement. Bruce Scher of TerraSante Village designed and built this structure with the help of friends and neighbors. The space can be played like a giant musical instrument, and is intended to facilitate experiments with sound, voice, and light. A lot of labor, love and magic went into the Chapel’s creation, and is a constant work in progress. It has the theme of a tortoise, which in many cultures has represented female wisdom and earth energy. The outside panels are to be decorated with paintings and mosaics – a cluster of six stories featuring Tortoise.

This is a sacred space dedicated to many forms of healing: aromatherapy, light therapy, toning, sound healing, singing, chanting, meditation, prayer, and grounding with the Earth. There is enough room for therapeutic manipulation as well as a designated place for a healing table. The multi-use building is also a wood-fired sauna, making it ideal for regular sweats and deeper healing.

This intentional space features six alcoves for optimal resonance, and lends itself to professional sound recording. It holds the ability to resonate sound, especially that of the human voice, in a fashion that forms one voice from all the voices. You may lose the sound of your own voice to the harmonic unity of all the voices together: you become part of one larger, greater sound.

For more detailed information on the construction and inspiration behind the Harmonic Chapel, visit Terra Sante’s website at http://www.terrasante.org/hsauna.html. If you’re interested in using this space, please email harmonynhealthtoday@gmail.com.

FESTIVAL GROUNDS

The Festival Grounds is an outdoor event center that includes two stages, an area for vendors, and sits adjacent to publicly owned BLM Dispersed Camping lands. It is a music and art venue built from materials that were re-purposed from Tucson and its surrounding communities.

YOGA DOME

The Yoga Dome is the largest geodesic dome on The Land, measuring 46 feet in diameter. It was constructed on-site from metal conduit for the 3rd Annual Bhakti Celebration. It rests upon a raised earth stage, has a carpet floor, and is mostly covered in shade cloth. It is ideal for large workshops and group activities, particularly yoga classes.

If you’re interested in holding an event in the Dome, email us at harmonynhealthtoday@gmail.com.

THE BOSQUE

The Bosque is a riparian area surrounding a large wash near the H&H Ranch. The wash is a protected area, with a nature trail marked for visitors. We are currently engaged in creating an educational booklet about the flora and fauna of our Bosque.

PRAYER TIPI

Our Prayer Tipi was built with traditional methods by Gary. It is a sacred space for meetings, storytelling, meditation, reflection, visioning, prayer, and smudging.

WALKING LABYRINTH

The Labyrinth was created by Jacob and Quynn Red Mountain of the Institute of Shamanic Arts during our Bhakti Celebration 2015. It is a place for reflection, meditation, questions, answers, and transformation. Labyrinths are found in cultures around the world. They are different from mazes, as there are no dead ends or ways to get lost. Walking a labyrinth can happen in a myriad of ways. Sometimes people enter with a specific question, burden, or wish held in their heads and hearts. By the time one reaches the center or leaves the labyrinth, one will have an answer. Other times people enter the labyrinth with no particular intention, but insight bubbles up within anyway. There are ways to walk consciously to enhance the experience, and there are guided and silent group meditations as well. We invite visitors, friends, neighbors and residents to contribute rocks to the permanent formation of the labyrinth, particularly rocks brought from far away or discovered on travels.
